McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area is a 123,400-acre protected landscape on the Colorado Plateau west of Grand Junction, Colorado, known for rugged sandstone canyons, spires, alcoves, natural arches, and a 24-mile stretch of the Colorado River. It includes the 75,500-acre Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, part of which extends into eastern Utah, and the remote Rattlesnake Arches area, which has Colorado’s highest concentration of natural arches. Created on October 24, 2000, and renamed in 2005 for Congressman Scott McInnis, the area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management for recreation, scientific resources, and preservation through adaptive management as visitation grows.
