Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness is a protected area on the Colorado Plateau about 15 miles west of Grand Junction, mostly in western Colorado with a small extension into eastern Utah. Centered on Black Ridge along the northwest flank of the Uncompahgre Plateau, it contains seven major canyon systems draining toward the Colorado River in Ruby Canyon. Congress designated the 75,439-acre wilderness in 2000, and it is managed by the Bureau of Land Management as the core of McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area. Its deep red-rock canyons, mesas, arches, alcoves, varied plant communities, and wildlife make it a striking and diverse desert landscape.
