Born near Seventy-Six Falls in August 1909, Ed P. Warinner served the 16th district in the state senate from 1952 to 1959. In 1954 he sponsored both the Minimum Foundation Act for school support and a measure lowering the voting age to 18. In 1958 he promoted veterans bonus legislation and a public assistance program, and he also advocated the Bookmobile system. He died in 1959 and is buried in Albany. His ancestors had settled here more than 100 years earlier. The area was named for the height of the falls, which were 76 feet at that time but are now 38 feet because of the lake's backwater. The community was settled in 1800 and laid out in 1817, and Warinner led development of this roadside park as an attraction for Clinton County.
