Devils Crags is a remote, serrated mountain in the southern Sierra Nevada of central California, in the northern part of Kings Canyon National Park. Instead of a single summit, it forms eleven pinnacles at the southern end of the Black Divide and rises dramatically above Le Conte Canyon and the John Muir Trail. Named in 1906 by Joseph Nisbet LeConte, it became one of the range’s distinctive mountaineering landmarks. Charles W. Michael made the first ascent of the highest pinnacle in 1913, and other California climbers later reached the remaining crags. Its classic climbing routes and unstable rock have given it both prestige and danger among Sierra peaks.
