D.A.R. State Forest is a publicly owned forest and state park in western Massachusetts, centered on Upper Highland Lake and Lower Highland Lake and located mostly in Goshen with a small part in Ashfield. Established in 1929 after the Daughters of the American Revolution donated 1,020 acres to the state, it later expanded to 1,728 acres. In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps rebuilt dams and created roads, bridges, picnic grounds, and camping areas that shaped its enduring recreational layout. Managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, the forest remains a year-round destination for lakeside recreation, trail use, camping, and winter sports.
