Old Godwin Bridge
Transportation
2
Late in the 19th century, the Godwin Bridge was built to span the river for both residential and commercial transportation, including the logging, cotton, and turpentine industries, connecting Hamilton and Columbia Counties. Floods later swept the bridge away, but the pilings remain. Many similar bridges were constructed throughout the area, and as these industries slowly disappeared, so did the infrastructure that supported them.
