Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs, along the Suwannee River in north Florida, is a state memorial shaped by the legacy of composer Stephen Foster and the enduring link between his song Old Folks at Home and the river. Although Foster never visited Florida, the song became closely associated with the Suwannee and serves as the state song. The park includes the Stephen Foster Museum and a carillon tower that plays Foster’s music. Proposed in 1931, the memorial also preserves a notable carillon first built for the 1939 World’s Fair and installed there in 1958; storm damage to its bells in 2017 led to restoration work.
