Pioneers from Peoria, Illinois, settled here in 1886, and as others followed, the Peoria First Presbyterian congregation was chartered on April 10, 1892. In 1899 parishioners erected a red-brick Gothic Revival church with arched stained geometric glass windows, and it has remained in continuous ministry since then. In 1921 an annex was added and the original entrance moved, and later the interior wainscoting was painted, kerosene lamps were removed, and the windows and pews were redesigned and crafted by members.
