Raggeds Wilderness
Nature
Raggeds Wilderness is a protected wilderness area in Colorado’s Elk Mountains northwest of Crested Butte, spanning 65,393 acres in the White River and Gunnison National Forests. Established in 1980, it preserves a wide expanse of rugged high country with striking elevation changes, from 6,840 feet in Dark Canyon to 13,535 feet on Treasure Mountain. This range creates both deep canyon landscapes and high alpine terrain. With nearly 90 miles of trails, the area is an important backcountry destination in this part of the Rocky Mountains.
