Near here stood Kincheloe's Station, established in the early 1780s and named for Capt. William Kincheloe, one of its leaders. It was later called Polke's Station for Chas. Polke, who claimed the land. In Sept., 1782, Indians made a surprise attack and massacred many men, women and children. After they captured and burned the settlement, it became known as Burnt Station.
