Middle Prong Wilderness is a protected wilderness area in western North Carolina within Pisgah National Forest. Established in 1984, it encompasses 7,900 acres in the mountainous terrain of Haywood County. Its landscape is marked by steep, rugged high ridges, with elevations ranging from about 3,200 feet to more than 6,400 feet. The area is named for the Middle Prong of the Pigeon River, whose headwaters begin within the wilderness. North Carolina 215 forms its northeastern boundary, dividing it from the adjacent Shining Rock Wilderness.
