The Hessler Log Home
History
4
In 1854-1856, early settlers Mary and Joseph Hessler built this log home in the southern part of the Old Mission Peninsula. Huge logs cut from pine trees were hand hewn and stacked on top of each other to form the walls, while modified dove-tailed joints held the corners snugly together without nails or fasteners. The cabin was later moved to this park, repaired, and furnished during 1992-1997 to assist the public in understanding how pioneer families lived and utilized the untamed land.
