Porcupine Lake Wilderness is a federally designated wilderness area in northern Wisconsin within the Chequamegon–Nicolet National Forest, managed by the United States Forest Service. Named for Porcupine Lake, this 4,446-acre protected landscape is defined by water, with more than 10 lakes scattered through it. Porcupine Lake covers 71 acres and has a varied lakebed of muck, sand, and gravel. Nearby waters, including Eighteen Mile Spring Pond, support trout, bass, and northern pike. The surrounding forest of oak, maple, hemlock, and white pine provides habitat for deer, bears, foxes, and loons, giving the area its distinctive northwoods character.
