The Peche Island Rear Range Light was a historic lighthouse off Peche Island at the entrance to the Detroit River from Lake St. Clair. Built in American waters just north of the Canadian border, it worked with a companion range light to guide ships toward the lake’s south end. Its tower stood on a crib in open water, a difficult location that gradually undermined its stability. By 1908 the structure had developed a severe lean, and after decades of service it was replaced in 1983 by a skeletal tower. The original lighthouse was preserved and moved to Lighthouse Park in Marine City, Michigan, where it remains tied to the shipping route it served.
