Don Robinson State Park preserves more than 800 acres of rugged terrain in the upper LaBarque Creek watershed in Jefferson County, including sandstone box canyons, shelter caves, cliffs, glades, and upland and bottomland forest. Its creation reflects both natural conservation and one man’s long personal ambition. Businessman Don Robinson began assembling the land in the 1960s until he matched the size of New York City’s Central Park, lived there in a stone house from 1978, and left the property to Missouri after his death in 2012. The state opened it to the public in 2017, with Robinson’s house, hiking trails, and a picnicking area still on site.
