Gene Autry founded the California Angels in 1961, and his uniform number 26 was retired by the players in 1982. He was known as a singing cowboy, actor, composer, Airforce pilot, entrepreneur, baseball fan, philanthropist, 33rd Degree Mason, and best friend. A statue was sculpted by the artist DeL'Esprie and cast by National Heritage Collectors Society.
