West Union Covered Bridge spanned Middle Island Creek in West Union, West Virginia, from 1843 until its destruction in June 1950. Built to replace an earlier log crossing at Lewisport that the flood of 1835 had swept away, it became a local landmark and part of the broader era of covered-bridge construction in the state. The replacement contract went to Colonel Benoît Claudius Crozet, linking the bridge to major transportation works along the Northwestern Turnpike, while local leader Ephraim Bee forged its iron bolts and bands. After 107 years, officials demolished the collapsed bridge during a devastating flood that killed more than 20 people in Doddridge County.
