Sunrise Park Resort is a high-elevation recreation destination near Greer in eastern Arizona on the White Mountains’ Colorado Plateau. Owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache Tribe on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation, it spans Sunrise Peak, Cyclone Circle, and Apache Peak and is Arizona’s largest ski resort, with 1,200 acres of skiable terrain, 67 trails, and one of the state’s largest vertical drops. Plans for the resort began in 1962, followed by federal studies, grants, and tribal funding, and it opened on Christmas Day 1970 despite a hotel fire. It now serves year-round as both a major regional attraction and an important tribal enterprise.
