Steptoe Battlefield State Park Heritage Site is a small Washington state park southeast of Rosalia that preserves the site of the 1858 Battle of Pine Creek, a running fight between American troops led by Lt. Col. Edward Steptoe and a large force of Spokane, Palouse, and Coeur d'Alene Native Americans. The spot where Steptoe's soldiers made their final stand was first marked in 1914 by the Esther Reed Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. It became a state park in 1950, joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and was designated a state park heritage site in 2014 as a commemorative and interpretive place tied to a violent episode in Inland Northwest history.
