Mar-a-Lago is a Palm Beach estate stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to Lake Worth Lagoon, built between 1924 and 1927 for Marjorie Merriweather Post and Edward F. Hutton during Florida’s land boom. Designed by Marion Sims Wyeth with interiors by Joseph Urban, it became Post’s winter residence and a center for social events. The property later served as a training center for returning servicemen in 1944 and was recognized for preserving the opulent resort life of the boom years. After plans for federal use failed, it returned to the Post Foundation, was bought by Donald Trump in 1985, and became a private club that later also served as a prominent presidential retreat.
