Baker Mountain, a 2,454-foot peak east of Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks, rises within the McKenzie Mountain Wilderness Area above Moody Pond and helps frame the village with Mount Pisgah and Dewey Mountain. Though modest in height, it is a popular local climb, with a short 0.9-mile trail to the summit that is part of the Saranac Sixer hiking challenge. Its prominence over the village gives it unusual visual importance. Baker Mountain also has a notable local history, including major forest fires in 1903 and 1908, the first recorded ski ascent by Edwin R. Stonaker in 1916, and a Prohibition-era speakeasy at its foot.
