Mount Vaught is an 8,854-foot mountain in the Livingston Range of Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana, a little more than 2 miles south-southwest of Heavens Peak. The peak was named for Lawrence O. Vaught, a Jacksonville, Illinois, lawyer who spent many summers in Glacier Park and corresponded with conservationist and writer George Bird Grinnell, who named many park features. Like much of Glacier’s high country, Mount Vaught lies in an alpine subarctic climate zone marked by long, cold, snowy winters and short summers that are cool to sometimes warm. Temperatures can drop below −10 °F, with wind chill below −30 °F.
