Honorable Percival P. Baxter, Governor of Maine, arranged for the purchase of this and other forts from the Federal Government. Fort Popham, with 6.73 acres of land, was valued at $6,600. Fort Baldwin, with 45.13 acres of land, was valued at $5,000. The transfer was made on September 20, 1924, when John W. Weeks was Secretary of War.
