Built by Leslie P. Nichols and his brother in 1877, this two-story schoolhouse was the only one in the county made of bricks from a local kiln. Its upper floor served as the town hall, while classes were held on the lower floor. It educated students in first through ninth grades and was regarded as one of the finest schoolhouses in Northern California. Albert Morrell was its first teacher.
