Bear Skin Neck

Bear Skin Neck was named for a bear caught by the tide and killed in 1700. It was the commercial and shipbuilding center of Rockport for 160 years. The first dock here was built in 1743. The Sandy Bay Pier Company was organized in 1809. During the War of 1812, it was the site of Stone Fort and the Sea Fencibles Barrack.
