Inside the Llanerch Power Station, workers waited to shovel coal into the massive boilers that powered the Hamilton Corliss steam engine. The electricity generated there ran the trolleys and also lighted many local homes and street lamps. In an ironic twist, the coal was delivered to the traction company by its rival, the Pennsylvania Railroad. Service to West Chester continued until 1959, and the buildings and water tower stood along West Chester Pike until 1972. A 1920's aerial photograph shows the Llanerch car barn, the site of Llanerch Crossing Park, and homes in Llanerch, along with the car barn and power plant, coal yard, Pennsylvania Railroad station, toll house and station, Llanerch Firehouse, Llanerch Presbyterian Church, Saint Andrew's Methodist Church, and Llanerch School.
