Farragut Wildlife Management Area is a 1,405-acre protected area in northern Idaho along Lake Pend Oreille next to Farragut State Park. Once part of the Farragut Naval Training Station established in 1942 during World War II, the land was decommissioned in 1946 and acquired by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game in 1949 for wildlife management. Today it combines military and natural history, with a lakeshore setting on a lake known for sport fish such as rainbow trout and upland habitat that supports white-tailed deer. Its importance rests in the land’s transformation from a wartime training ground into conserved public habitat.
