The people of Delaware County erected this memorial in grateful remembrance of those who served their country in the Civil War and of those who defended the American flag. The battles named are Gettysburg, Antietam, Wilderness, Cold Harbor, Fredericksburg, Petersburg, Fort Sumter, and Honey Hill, and the dates given are 1861-1865, 1812-1845, 1776, and 1898.
