San Carlos volcanic field is a small monogenetic volcanic field in Arizona on the San Carlos Apache Reservation, about 40 kilometers east of Globe. Rather than a single mountain, it is a compact volcanic area of cones and lava flows covering roughly 50 square kilometers or less. Its basaltic lavas range from basanite to hawaiite and are especially significant for the xenoliths of peridotite they brought up from deep within the Earth. One vent, Peridot Mesa, is particularly notable for lherzolite nodules containing gem-quality peridot, giving the field importance that extends beyond its visible volcanic landforms.
