Duchesne, Utah, serves as a gateway to the Uinta Basin and includes attractions across Duchesne County such as the Pope Museum in Duchesne, home of pioneers Fred and Marie Pope and miniature dioramas by Fred Pope depicting early Uintah Basin settler life; the Fairgrounds, Rodeo Arena, and an accessible River Walk along the Strawberry River with fishing access, pavilions, restrooms, and picnic tables; Starvation State Park and Reservoir, a 3,500-acre area established in 1972 for year-round fishing and boating, with a marina, a 54-unit RV campground, primitive camping, a boat ramp and dock, a sand beach, showers, a pavilion, sewage disposal, and fish cleaning stations; Nine Mile Canyon, a major representative area of prehistoric Fremont culture with more than 1800 petroglyphs and pictographs and cliff granaries on canyon ledges; Roosevelt's 18-hole golf course on 150 acres overlooking the city and surrounding area; Constitution Park, site of Roosevelt's annual U.B.I.C. celebration and home to playgrounds, pavilions, ball fields, a soccer field, and a 1 mile walking path; and the High Uintas' Moon Lake and Rock Creek Reservoir, where Moon Lake was enlarged in 1938 by a dam on the Lake Fork River and offers camping, hiking, watersports, and fishing, while Rock Creek Reservoir was created in 1987 by the Upper Stillwater Dam and is noted both for fishing and for the architecture of its rolled concrete dam.
