Swiftcurrent Glacier
Nature
Swiftcurrent Glacier lies in Glacier National Park in Montana on the east side of the Continental Divide along the arête known as the Garden Wall. As one of the park’s named glaciers, it occupies a landscape formed by steep ridges, ice, and meltwater. Scientists monitor it to better understand how glacial retreat influences stream flow. Compared with other glaciers in the park, Swiftcurrent Glacier has retreated relatively slowly. In 2005, its area measured 55 acres, a 14 percent decrease from 1966.
