Chiefs Pokhais, Sepopawny, and Muttagooppa, with their people of the Unami group of the Lenni-Lenape or Delawares, whose totem was the tortoise, were moved by William Penn from lower Ridley and Crum Creeks to a tract of 500 acres on the north side of this road east of Ridley Creek, the only Indian reservation the proprietor ever established, in 1701.
