Nature
Jumbo Springs Wilderness is a 4,631-acre protected area in southern Nevada, about 50 miles east of Las Vegas, extending along the southern and eastern sides of Lake Mead. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management since 2002, it is relatively small but holds a notably diverse desert environment. Its geology spans Precambrian metamorphic rock, granitic domes, and boulder formations. The area also supports desert wildlife such as coyotes, pocket gophers, and white-tailed antelope squirrels, along with plants including Nevada jointfir, buckhorn cholla, and delicate cryptobiotic crusts.
