Lake Mead is America’s first and largest national recreation area, a year-round destination for swimming, boating, hiking, cycling, camping, and fishing across 1.5 million acres of mountains, canyons, valleys, and two vast lakes. Its striking landscapes and brilliant blue waters include views of Hoover Dam from Lake Mead or Lake Mohave, as well as solitude in one of the park's nine wilderness areas. Spring daytime highs range from 80 °F to 98 °F, with nighttime lows from 50 °F to 66 °F; summer daytime highs range from 89 °F to 103 °F and can reach 117 °F; fall daytime highs range from 59 °F to 83 °F, with nighttime lows from 32 °F to 50 °F; and winter daytime highs range from 57 °F to 69 °F, with nighttime lows from 30 °F to 40 °F. Summer can be dangerous because of excessive heat, and some trails are closed for public safety.
