Gilbert’s longest continuously operating business remains owned and operated by the sons of Tom Clement, who came to Gilbert in 1934 to run the garage and service station. He raised his family there and later served as Mayor of Gilbert from 1949 to 1955, also overseeing the installation of the town’s first sewer system. Before he managed the business, the property included Conc (Conoco) and gas pumps, with the garage located in the back.
