Tres Alamos Wilderness is a protected area in Arizona focused on the southern Black Mountains and Sawyer Peak, the range’s highest point. Named for the prominent, colorful monolith called Tres Alamos, it was established in 1990 by the Arizona Desert Wilderness Act and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The area is significant as a classic transition zone between the Sonoran and Mojave deserts, where creosote bush and Joshua tree grow alongside saguaro cactus and palo verde. Its wildlife includes prairie falcons, golden eagles, and Gila monsters.
