In this vicinity on Nov. 5, 1871, the Wickenburg–Ehrenburg stage was ambushed by Apache Mohave Indians. John Lanz, Fred W. Loring, P. M. Hamel, W. G. Salmon, Fredrick Shoholm, and C.S. Adams were murdered, and Mollie Sheppard died of wounds.
