Highbanks Metropolitan Park Mounds I and II are two protected archaeological earthworks in central Ohio on the east bank of the Olentangy River. Also called the Muma Mound and the Orchard, or Selvey, Mound, they are subconical mounds generally attributed to the Adena culture. The park also contains the Highbank Park Works, a semi-elliptical embankment of four sections about three feet high bordered by a shallow ditch, thought to date between 800 and 1300 CE and to have been built by the Cole culture. Surveyed in 1846 by Ephraim George Squier and Edwin Hamilton Davis, the site became part of early archaeological study of Ohio’s Native American earthworks and remains significant in the region’s pre-Columbian landscape.
