Buttonwood Covered Bridge spans Blockhouse Creek in Jackson Township, Pennsylvania, and is one of only three covered bridges still standing in Lycoming County. Measuring about 74 feet long, it is the county’s shortest surviving covered bridge and uses a queen post with king post truss, a compact timber design for short crossings. Sources disagree on whether it was built in 1878 or 1898, and published measurements vary slightly, but its historic importance is clear. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and extensively restored in 1998, it remains both a preserved landmark and the most heavily used of the county’s remaining covered bridges.
