Hampton honored the men who served in the Civil War from 1861 to 1865 and in World War I from 1917 to 1918, including Hampton men credited elsewhere, those killed in action, and Hampton women in service. It also remembered the men of Hampton who served by land and sea in the Indian Wars, the Colonial Wars, the War of Independence, and the War of 1812, calling them a valiant host of more than five hundred and declaring that when duty calls Hampton is never found wanting.
