Nature
Carter Dome is a 4,826-foot mountain in New Hampshire’s White Mountains and part of the Carter-Moriah Range along the northern east side of Pinkham Notch. Counted among the state’s four-thousand footers, it lies between Mount Hight and Wildcat Mountain across Carter Notch. The source of its name is uncertain; local folklore links it to a hunter named Carter and says nearby Hight was named for his hunting partner. Several hiking routes reach the summit from both west and east. Its climate is humid continental and nearly subarctic, with a notably short, cool warm season at that elevation.
