The Cernan Earth and Space Center at Triton College in River Grove, near Chicago, is a public planetarium that connects a suburban campus to the story of American spaceflight through its namesake, astronaut Eugene Cernan. Cernan flew on Gemini 9 and Apollo 10, and as commander of Apollo 17 became the last person to leave footprints on the Moon. The center features a 93-seat dome theater for fulldome and laser presentations, offers school, group, and weekend public programs, and includes outdoor space-age hardware, monthly astronomy programming, exhibits, a membership program, and a gift shop as part of its educational and community outreach role.
