Mount Pisgah
Nature
Mount Pisgah, in northeastern Pennsylvania’s Endless Mountains, rises beside Mount Pisgah State Park and Stephen Foster Lake, with a trail leading to its summit. Named for the biblical Mount Pisgah in Jordan, it became a popular summer resort in the late nineteenth century, attracting visitors from eastern cities and as far as Chicago. A mountaintop hotel and a one hundred-foot observation tower once crowned the peak, though those buildings have disappeared. The mountain remains prized for its sweeping scenery, with views from a present platform looking west toward Armenia Mountain and the distant mountains north of Mansfield.
