Benjamin Craig

Benjamin Craig, one of the founders of Port William, now Carrollton, laid off the town on 613 acres that he and James Hawkins owned, and the legislature incorporated it in 1794. He erected the first brick house in the county in 1792. Born in Virginia in 1751, he came to Kentucky at age 30 and accompanied the Traveling Church, led by his brother Lewis Craig. He died in 1822.
