Arlington Green Covered Bridge in West Arlington, Vermont, carries Covered Bridge Road over the Batten Kill on a single-lane Town lattice truss closely associated with nineteenth-century New England bridge building. Built in 1852, it is one of Vermont’s oldest surviving covered bridges. The 80-foot span rests on mortared stone abutments, with vertical board siding, a metal roof, and five small square openings on each side. It is especially significant for preserving its historic structure without the twentieth-century strengthening elements added to many other old Vermont covered bridges. Flood damage from Hurricane Irene in 2011 was repaired, and the bridge soon reopened to traffic.
