Chiselville Covered Bridge in Sunderland, Vermont, carries a road over the Roaring Branch of the Batten Kill and stands as one of the state’s notable historic covered bridges. Built in 1870 by Daniel Oatman, it uses a traditional lattice truss design for wooden covered bridges. It is especially associated with the warning at its entrance imposing a one dollar fine for driving faster than a walk. After damage in 1971 from two overweight gravel trucks, steel I-beam supports were added in 1973. Still serving as a working crossing, it also gained wider recognition through its appearance in the 1987 film Baby Boom.
