A devastating tornado on May 31, 1985, killed twelve members of the community: Marie T. Eagley, Norman F. Elliott, Ralph Hecker, Lena C. Keith, Frances B. Kireta, Stanley J. Kireta, William R. Revak, Helen S. Sabovik, Debra Jane Sherman, Jodi Lynn Snyder, Lynn Tyson Stahlsmith, and Lydia S. Taylor. Countless volunteers gave freely of themselves to assist the living in its aftermath.
