Black Dome is the highest peak in the Blackhead Mountains range in Greene County, New York, standing in the Catskills between Blackhead and Thomas Cole Mountain within Catskill Park. It is part of a tightly grouped cluster of notable summits and lies within the watershed of Schoharie Creek, connecting it to a broader water system that flows through the Mohawk and Hudson rivers to New York Bay. Its south side drains through East Kill and its north side into Batavia Kill, both feeding Schoharie Creek. This setting makes Black Dome a recognized summit in one of New York’s best-known mountain landscapes.
