Lower Fremont Glacier
Nature
Lower Fremont Glacier lies in Wyoming’s northern Wind River Range, east of the Continental Divide, within the Fitzpatrick Wilderness of Shoshone National Forest. It is part of a mountain landscape with one of the largest concentrations of glaciers in the American Rocky Mountains. Flowing toward the southeast, the glacier has recently retreated enough to visibly alter the surrounding terrain. That retreat has left lateral moraines along its edges and formed a proglacial lake below the ice. A moraine separates Lower Fremont Glacier from Bull Lake Glacier, while cliffs divide it from Upper Fremont Glacier.
