The Pinches Stable stood here during the late eighteen-hundreds, when horses were central to travel and people passing through town boarded them there. Laytonville's first church was built here in the 1860's; before it, services were held in private homes or schools. The Laytonville Baptist Church was sometimes used as a courthouse, and passing ministers held sermons there, but because it was not regularly used, it became a place for children to play in the 1920s. It was eventually torn down after its use had been discontinued, and its bell is now on display in the Babcock Bell Collection in Willits.
